Inslee Announces Statewide Restrictions for Four-Weeks

November 15, 2020

Gov. Jay Inslee today announced a four-week statewide set of restrictions in response to the recent rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus in Washington and across the country.
The new restrictions come as Washington sees consistent increasing daily case counts, with over 2,000 cases a day over the weekend and average cases in the state doubling over the past two weeks.
“This spike puts us in a more dangerous a position as we were in March,” Inslee said during a press conference Sunday. “And it means, unfortunately, the time has come to reinstate restrictions on activities statewide to preserve the public’s well-being, and to save lives. These were very difficult decisions that have very real consequences to people’s livelihoods. I recognize that and don’t take those impacts lightly, but we must act now and act quickly to slow the spread of this disease.”
The restrictions are statewide and will take effect Monday, November 16 at 11:59 PM and will remain in effect until Monday, December 14. The modified restrictions of restaurants, however, will take effect Wednesday, November 18 at 12:01 AM.
To help mitigate financial impacts on businesses and their employees, the state will commit $50 million in aid. In the short term, the state is commuting $20 million be dedicated to cash assistance targeted directly to hardest hit industries. Remaining funds will be focused on supporting recovery efforts through business loans. Additional details are forthcoming.

To ensure the health and safety of our members and the community, King County Fire District 2 is following the CDC recommendations to address the concerns over the growing the risk of COVID-19.

The following services have been temporarily suspended:
  • Station Tours
  • CPR Classes
  • In-Station Blood Pressure Checks

Our first responders are actively responding to calls and we encourage our community to follow the CDC recommendations for preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html

We are monitoring the situation as it evolves and will provide updates as necessary.  Please contact the Fire Marshal for all Fire Hydrant Availability, Permits, and Fire Inspections at (206) 209-4119 or email rpettigrew@burienfire.org.

CO Alarm maintenance information

CO Alarm Information
The Burien Fire District has received multiple 9-1-1 calls this year from concerned residents because of chirping carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. While it’s important to call 9-1-1 if your CO alarm is sounding continuously without stopping, a CO alarm that chirps every 30 seconds is not an emergency. It probably means your CO alarm has reached its end of life and should be replaced.

See the document attached for more information about CO Alarms, the laws regarding their use and best practices about what you should do if you hear yours chirping.

Congratulations to our two New Captains!

On the morning of January 11th, fire crews responded to an auto shop fire in the 15200 block of First Avenue South. The quick actions of the first crew on scene as well as a fully functioning sprinkler system contributed to the rescue of one man inside. Nice work B Shift Engine 328! After extensive contract negotiations and a vote from two separate fire commissions, the North Highline Fire District has undergone a contractual consolidation into King County Fire District #2. While North Highline Fire District still exists and maintains their own board of fire commissioners, all of their firefighters have been hired by the King County Fire District #2. The new consolidated district will provide streamlined response and chain of command for fire and emergency medical service (EMS) to areas of unincorporated King County, Burien, and Normandy Park.
