King County Fire District #2 maintains a volunteer program to supplement its career staff. The role of a volunteer is to assist firefighters in the course of their duties, including assisting in the tasks of firefighting, mitigating medical emergencies, and participating in public education and fire prevention activities.
Volunteers are required to attend 3 of 4 drill nights per month. Each volunteer must also work a shift from 7pm to 7am on their assigned night (generally every 9 days). In addition, volunteers are instructed to staff apparatus during call-back assignments. |
Testing Process
Volunteers that successfully pass a written test, physical ability test, and oral board interview will be considered for placement into the volunteer program. Candidates that are extended offers will be required to pass a volunteer firefighter recruit academy, as well as a 1-year probationary period. Volunteers will be allowed to work overnight shifts pending completion of a rookie book involving various tasks.
Questions about the volunteer program, test dates, or other related information should be directed to the receptionist at (206) 242-2040 or email questions to volunteer@burienfire.org |
